Family Background
The family, originally from Argentina, have two young children aged 5 and 10.  They have had a wonderful housekeeper who helped with the children for many years but she is having a baby and moving away.  They are very sad to see her go.  They have a beautiful five-bedroom property, and the children have lots of toys and a wonderful playroom for the two of them.  They have no pets, but may get a cat or a dog a few years from now (so you should be pet friendly).  They are now looking for an experienced housekeeper who can come and work for their family long-term.  Willing to focus on housekeeping and house management, but also help out with the children when required.

Duties
You should be confident with all aspects of housekeeping and be able to care for the home to a high standard, with great attention to detail.  You should be skilled with cleaning and also have a very good eye for detail.  The family-run an informal household, however, the parents expect a professional attitude, and someone who is willing to look for the details in the work and finish.  The parents want to rely on you to manage the household and make sure it is cared for to a high standard.

You will be responsible for the daily and deep cleaning of the household and ensure it is always tidy and presentable. Making beds, cleaning bathrooms, organising and cleaning the kitchen, and generally keeping all areas of the house clean and organised.   The mother is a professional Chef and loves to cook, so your role is not focused around any real type of cooking, however you may be asked to chop some vegetables or follow some basic cooking to lend a hand from time to time.

You should be happy to help with the children in the mornings and evenings, and this role requires a good degree of flexibility.  They want someone trustworthy, loyal and warm with the children.  You should be willing to help with the busy mornings and when the children get home from school in the afternoon up to their bedtime.

You should be happy to run errands such as trips to the post office and the supermarket. You should be child-friendly and willing to muck into family life. In the summer if you are open to travelling with the family they would love you to come with them to their home in Spain for a month, but if you prefer not to travel with the family this is also fine.  The father travels regularly for work, and the mother and children travel with him during the school holidays.

They are keen to find someone with a great attitude and wanting to stay in a long-term role, to give the family the flexibility and care required.  A down-to-earth family, they enjoy looking after the staff who work for them.

During the summer, the family spend the majority of their time in their Spanish property.  Ideally you should be happy to travel with them (however if you cannot or do not wish too that is also fine).

Location
The family home is in Chiswick, London, W4 and this is a live-out role so you should be able to easily commute.

Days/Hours

  • Working Monday to Friday, with flexibility to cover occasional weekend work when agreed in advance
  • If you are happy to do regular Saturday work then this can be part of your contract (and you will be paid additionally)
  • Travel with the family is optional, but if you are willing to travel your hours will be adjusted (as will your pay)
  • Ideally covering the breakfast/school run start, and then working through to the evening meal.  However, if you wish to start later, and just cover the main daytime hours/early evening this is also fine. Alternatively, you can cover the early morning and then finish in the late afternoon if that is your preference. Ultimately the parents would like between 10-12 hours a day but there is flexibility on how these hours are worked.
