Family Background
The family are known extremely well by the agency.  The father is a teacher, and the mother is an entrepreneur and works from home, or takes trips into London.  They have a young boy who is almost 8, and he is active and bright. They have had a nanny/housekeeper for many years and she is now moving to another part of the country. The live in a 3 bedroom house in West Berkshire (20 mins to Newbury and 20 mins to Reading, 50 mins to London), in a beautiful part of the world.  It is a semi-remote location, and it is accessed only by car.  The father works full time and is busy during term time, and the mother works full time. The son is currently at school five days a week.  They have five dogs.

Duties
Your duties will be split between the household and assisting the parents with the child.  They are extremely hands-on parents, so it is a mixture of sole and shared charge.  Your day will start with a quick tidy-up of the house, and a handover from mum before she goes to work.  Then you'll walk the dogs and return to the house.  You'll then do a full clean of the house, with changing bed linen, laundry and cleaning as required.  You'll then prepare lunch for yourself and the mum (who works from home), and if the son and husband are on holiday then you'll make extra for them.  Cooking is easy, fresh, healthy food, nothing fancy.

The afternoon will be split between managing the house, doing additional cleaning, or running errands.  During term time, you'll then prepare dinner for the little boy and collect him from school (five minutes away by car).  You'll bring him home, give him his dinner and then help him with his homework. On some evenings the mum will be back earlier from work and then she will take over with the little boy for homework and you'll continue with house duties.  During term time the husband eats at school, but during holidays you'll prepare extra food for the husband to eat.

During the school holidays, as the husband is a teacher, he is very involved with the son.  However, you may take the boy to more activities, drop him off at camps and pickup, or even have a few fun days out together.  The household duties will shift accordingly.   You will be in charge of all his uniform, room and school organisation, liaising with the mum and dad to ensure that everything is organized.

When the family travel (for a few weeks each year during school holidays) you'll be expected to live in the property to care for the security and to look after the dogs.  There will be occasional babysitting or additional hours, but this is optional and agreed upon in advance.

You should be organised, adaptive, flexible and kind.  You should be looking for a long-term role and have previous employment with domestic roles.  You should be excellent with children as well as dogs and have a 'muck-in' attitude.  The family are keen to find someone long-term who can grow with their family for many years. You should be flexible and adaptive and always willing to adjust to family life.

Location
The family live in the small village of Midgham, between Reading/Newbury, RG7.  This is a live-out role and you should be able to commute easily to the property with your own car.

Days/Hours

  • 5 days a week.  Monday- Friday.  With flexibility for babysitting when agreed in advance.
  • 8am - 8pm
  • If you work any additional hours (when agreed in advance) this would be covered as overtime or time off in lieu.
  • When you house sit you will still have your salary paid, and if you cover weekends you'll be paid in addition to this.

Languages
You must speak a good level of English and if you speak Spanish this is a bonus as the child is fluent in Spanish.  The parents do not speak Spanish so your English must be good enough to communicate.

Special Skills
You must have your own car licence and a car in order to commute to the property each day.
