A family based in Pangbourne, Berkshire, RG8, are looking for an experienced housekeeper to work in their beautiful home. This is a live in or live out role, depending on your preference. Due to location, you must have a driving licence.

Family Background
The family comprises of parents and three teenage children, one at university and the two younger ones board during the week and come home at weekends, both parents work from home. They have two friendly dogs, a Spaniel, and a Retriever. The home is a beautiful property in the Berkshire countryside, it has eight large bedrooms and six bathrooms, a gym, a games room, and a swimming pool with a pool house. The home has large grounds, including a kitchen garden, and the family currently employs gardeners to help manage this.
Duties
You should be confident with all aspects of housekeeping and be able to clean and care for the home to a high standard, with great attention to detail. You will be responsible for the daily and deep cleaning of the household and ensure it is always presentable. Making beds, cleaning bathrooms, organising and cleaning the kitchen, and generally keeping all areas of the house clean and tidy. The housekeeper will primarily focus on the high traffic areas of the home, occasionally doing a deep clean of the lesser used areas like the games room etc. You will be responsible for the family’s wardrobe management, ensuring all laundry & ironing is up to date. During the week, the home is calm and quiet, so you must be motivated and happy to work independently. The open plan living area has a limestone floor which needs particular attention, it is important that you know how to care for this.
The successful candidate should be aware of any items requiring specific attention or repair, keeping a basic maintenance check schedule. You must be happy to book contractors or organise servicing, for example for the AGA or the boiler.
There is no specific cooking required for this role, however, it would be a bonus if you have an interest in cooking. There is a kitchen garden in the grounds and there is often an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, help is required with picking during the summer, and it would be a bonus if you had knowledge of how to prepare jams and preserves.
You will run occasional errands as required, for example, to the post office, grocery shop, or dry cleaners.
You should be happy to look after the dogs as needed, by walking and feeding them. When the family travels, you should be happy to stay home to house and dog sit.
Location/Accommodation
This property is located in Pangbourne, Berkshire, RG8. This is a live in or live out role, depending on your preference. If you choose to live out, you should be able to commute to the property easily. There is lovely accommodation provided, a detached 1 bedroom bungalow in the grounds. Due to size, the accommodation is better suited to a single candidate with no pets.
Days/Hours
- Working Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week
- Working 9am - 5pm, with a 1 hour lunch break
- Hours are somewhat flexible and the principal is happy for the housekeeper to amend the shift times around their other commitments
- Any overtime worked will either be paid or given back as time in lieu
Languages
You must speak a good level of English to communicate with the family.
Special Skills
You should have prior housekeeping experience in private homes. You should be able to work independently and use your own initiative.
