A House Manager/PA is sought for a family with two children (aged 6 and 14), in the stunning location of the central Scottish borders near Melrose, TD6. Due to the location, you must hold a driving licence.

Package Offered

  • £55,000 - £75,000 gross per year depending on experience
  • Additional hours are paid in overtime or time off in lieu
  • Accommodation can be provided on-site, or if you are local or wish to have flexi live in/live out this can be arranged
  • A work car (automatic Range Rover) can be provided for daytime use

Family Background

A professional family with both parents working, they have a 6 year old at full time local school and a 14 year old at a boarding school. They live on a stunning rural estate and in addition to dogs at home, there are also horses and chickens. They have a part time housekeeper, and have various groundsmen and estate workers who attend the property each week. They are keen to find a responsible, flexible and kind candidate who can support their family life with a focus on the administration of the property and the childcare. 

Duties

You will be required to assist around the house with the PA duties associated with the family, you will be arranging the children and family's diary, managing activities and bookings and helping book travel. You should be warm, capable and discreet, with a good knowledge of administration and management. Flexible to adjust to the needs of the busy family household. 

The children are at an age where they are reasonably self-sufficient and attend school on weekdays, so there is a duality in the role, with a focus on both administration and childcare. You will work on both personal admin and childcare, with some cross-over to the parent's administration for their businesses. You should be organised, excellent at IT and literate with all aspects of admin and paperwork.  

You will be responsible for answering the house phone so, you should have an excellent phone manner. 

You should be happy to help out with the preparation of light lunches for the family and children. Organising food shopping and ordering household supplies. Organise and coordinate household maintenance, coordination with tradespeople and taking in deliveries.

You should be willing to run errands, take the family to meetings and appointments, help with pickup/drop off from school, driving children to activities and help with dog walking if required. You should be flexible to help with occasional babysitting and weekend work when agreed in advance. If you are happy to travel with the family this would be a bonus.

You should be a warm and friendly individual, who would thrive in a close knit estate mini-community.  A proactive and energetic individual who would be happy in a busy and stimulating environment.  A professional who maintains standards of confidentiality at all times.  An animal lover who enjoys the countryside and understands rural life.

Location/Accommodation

The family are based in the central Scottish borders. You can live in, a private apartment (in the main house) on the top floor with a separate entrance. You can also live out if you are able to commute daily, or you can have a flexible arrangement and live in during working days.

Days/Hours

  • Your normal hours will be Monday – Friday, 10am - 6pm, with the flexibility to adjust hours around the holiday timetable and when the family travel.
  • Babysitting and weekend hours would be agreed upon in advance and considered overtime.

Languages

An excellent level of English is required to assist with all aspects of the household administration.

Special Skills

You should have significant previous experience of administration and be child friendly. You should be fun and friendly and be able to interact well with both children. You should have a full driving licence.
