A formal, grade II, historic building in central London, Mayfair, W1, are looking for a Head Housekeeper to join their team of staff. They are looking for someone who is experienced and confident in managing a team and can lead by example.

Background
A formal, grade II, historic building in central London, Mayfair, W1K. This beautiful large property has recently finished a complete refurbishment. The principals live abroad, but use their London house for entertaining, guests and for visits to London. The family currently hires 2 full time housekeepers, 2 part time housekeepers and a houseman, plus the house manager who leads the team. The property has lots of antique furniture and fine art and there are delicate decorative finishes to be aware of. They are looking for someone who can lead by example and create a smooth running efficient operation delivering the high standards required. You should be highly organised and work well under pressure. Be respectful, presentable, and be able to pivot at a moments notice.
Duties
You should have amazing attention to detail and take ownership. You should be proud of your work and ensure the same level of detail and enthusiasm is passed on to your members of staff. You should be confident in supporting the House Manager and the other staff in the property.
- Ensuring that all areas of the house are clean and free of dust on a daily basis.
- Cleaning/care of antique furniture, paintings, marble and silverware.
- Advise House Manager of any items requiring specific attention or repair, and assist when required
- Making sure all bedrooms are kept clean and tidy and beds are made.
- Ensuring all private and communal bathrooms/lavatories are kept clean and that high levels of hygiene are maintained.
- Checking all cleaning supplies are kept stocked
- Care and basic maintenance of all cleaning and laundry equipment and areas.
- Laundering of clothes and bed linen.
- Working with other staff members to ensure that security within the house and grounds is maintained.
- Ensure all floral arrangements are looked after and kept watered.
- Liaise with housekeeping contractors, schedules and organisation of the inventory and supplies.
- Working with the houseman who carries out maintenance to ensure that any areas of repair are reported and dealt with
- When the family are in residence tasks will also include duties such as support with service at mealtimes, and assisting the travelling staff with their requirements.
Location
The property is near Mayfair, London, W1K. This is a live-out role.
Days/Hours
When the family are not in residence, you’ll work Monday to Friday 9 to 6pm, and on the occasions the family visit you’ll work longer hours and days including weekends of which you will be renumerated. Flexibility is important for this role.
Languages
You must speak an excellent level of English.
Skills
You must have solid experience as a housekeeper in private households and previous experience in a similar high-end household leading a team, and be able to work autonomously. You should be respectful to the principal at all times and respond positively to feedback. You should take pride in your presentation and ensure this is upheld throughout the team in your department.
