Family Background
A professional family of five, living in a beautiful country estate near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, OX7, surrounded by ancient parklands and a deer park are looking for new long-term head gardener to help look after and maintain their 11-acre garden.
The estate currently has a number of staff who work both in the properties on the grounds and in the grounds themselves, and they are now looking for a new Head Gardener to lead the outdoor team. The family have three lovely daughters and three beloved dogs so you must be happy around animals.
Duties
You will be responsible for the maintenance of the 11-acre gardens and grounds, consisting of herbaceous borders, arboretum, lawns and garden. The family have another full-time gardener/handy man who you would manage and work alongside.
You should be a self-starter with an eye for detail and a passion for the upkeep of beautiful grounds. You should be passionate and skilled in maintaining vegetable gardens. You should be knowledgeable about plants/planting, maintenance and development of the beds, borders, lawns, shrubs and trees. You should be confident to deal with contractors such as tree surgeons and be able to manage them.
You should have a good working knowledge of plants and lawns, able to help with the different seasons and planting, and manage and care for the grounds. You should be able to upkeep the tools and ensure they are kept in good working order.
The estate operates and a farm and family stables, and you would be expected to fit in and help out on occasion.
You should be a strong, self-motivated team player, and be looking for a long-term role and a wonderful project to be involved with for years to come. You must be a passionate gardener and flexible in your work. You should have previous experience working in beautiful gardens and grounds and be a confident professional gardener.
Location/Accommodation
This role is near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, OX7 and you have the option to live-in or live-out. Accommodation of a two-bedroom, cottage on the estate can be provided, and the client is happy for you to bring partners and pets.
Days/Hours
- Working 7am – 4pm (flexible on hours as per daylight in summer/winter), Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays worked. On the weeks you work the Saturday, you’ll have another day off during the week.
- Family is flexible with the working hours and also generally work on the basis of longer summer hours and shorter winter hours.
Languages
You must speak an excellent level of English to be able to communicate with the family and staff.
Special Skills
No professional qualifications are required for this role; however, you must be skilled with working with garden machinery and upkeep. You should have skills in planting and lawn care, and ideally if you hold a formal gardening qualification this would go in good favour.
