A lovely Mediterranean family based in Stanmore, Harrow, London are looking for a long term, live in Nanny with light housekeeping duties. You should hold a full driving licence in order to drive an automatic car.
The family are based in North London, and have had a nanny/housekeeper for the last three years. Due the families children growing and the need for the nanny to be able to drive the children to activities and school, the family are now looking for a live in nanny/housekeeper who can drive. The family has 2 boys. The is 8 years old and in year 3 and goes to school and back by coach (the coach stop is a 5 minute walk from the home). Their younger son is 2 years and 4 months and will be starting nursery in a feeder school locally (about 3 miles drive) in mid-April and will need to be dropped and picked up every day. Both parents work full time and long hours - on an average, their working day is from 8 am to 7 pm. They also tend to have weekday dinner commitments for work, so will need someone who is flexible on timing.
They have a cleaning lady who visits twice a week for 5 hours each time and does all the major cleaning, and a gardener who comes once a week. They have no pets.
You will be an integral part of the family, and the focus is on the children. You should be able to support the children with their homework and studies, and encourage them to work a little harder when they can (as they tend to like to take the easy route!). You should therefore have good written and spoken English language.
You will be expected to help the family get the kids ready in the morning and then drop off the youngest to school. The days (during term time) are then quieter and they would only expect a dinner cooked for the family in the evening (kids eat earlier at about 6.30 pm the parents eat either after the kids are asleep at 8 or after) and then the busy time starts after 3:30 when the kids are back.
During school holidays the family and nanny will organise camps etc for the kids (especially the older son) to attend but there may be days that both kids are home and need to be kept occupied with outdoor and indoor activities. The family have a large extended family, and often the grandparents like to visit. You should be sensitive to the fact that grandmothers like to be involved in all aspect of the house and duties, and your duties will reduce, but you would be expected to assist and be part of the family even when the grandparents visit!
The cleaner who does the deep cleaning will come for their duties and you will be expected to manage this. You should have completed all the laundry so that the cleaner can do the ironing and the heavy cleaning, but you should be happy to help with general tidying and house management of the house. You will need to supervise the cleaner, tidy up, make sure kids stuff is all arranged for school next day etc, cook dinners and generally keep the house in order There is a gardener who comes once a week, and again you should feel comfortable to manage and work alongside him, giving him the odd cup of coffee and taking initiative to book him should the family require some additional support. You will be given a debit card to do the shopping with, and to pay the cleaner and the gardener. You should be organised and have good initiative.
Stanmore, Harrow is in North London. You will be provided your own bedroom, and bathroom. The bathroom is only ever used when the family have guests visiting.
The day starts at 7am and during the day once the duties and cooking is completed you will have lots of time off. Both children are in school each day. The day will finish once the children are in bed at around 8pm. Monday - Friday. There will be very rarely weekend work, as the family enjoy spending this time with the children.
You should speak an excellent level of English to assist the children with the homework.
You must have experience working in domestic homes, and you should have a full driving licence. You will be provided access to an automatic car.
£350-450net a week depending on experience.
Interviews taking place ASAP. The family ideally would like someone to start in January, but they can start earlier if required.
