A beautiful large country estate near Donegal, F94, Ireland are looking for a long-term Head Gardener for their stunning grounds.  

Package Offered

  • £40,000 – £75,000 gross per year depending on experience.
  • Live in our live out - with accommodation provided if you need it (1/2-bedroom cottage). Open to partners, families, children and pets re-locating with the gardener.

Family Background
A family run estate which has various business and commercial interests near Donegal, F94, Ireland, surrounded by 3000 acres of farmland and forestry and also 50 acres of mature woodlands are looking for new long-term head gardener to help look after and maintain their 15-acre family garden. The family are currently renovating the whole estate and building a new large house, so are now looking for a new Head Gardener to lead a team and manage and re-do the gardens and maintain the woodlands.  The main estate has a huge team of farm workers; however they are keen to find a skilled and committed Head Gardener to work directly with the family grounds to help bring back to life the specific areas of the estate.

Duties
You will be responsible for the maintenance of the 15-acre gardens and grounds, consisting of herbaceous borders, arboretum, lawns and garden. You will also be responsible for the 50 acres of mature woodlands. The family are also recruiting another full-time ground person who you would manage and work alongside.

You should be an experienced gardener with an eye for detail and a passion for the upkeep of beautiful grounds. You should be knowledgeable about plants/planting, maintenance and development of the beds, borders, lawns, shrubs and trees.  You should be confident to deal with contractors such as tree surgeons and be able to manage them. You should be passionate and skilled in maintaining gardens. 

You should have a good working knowledge of plants and lawns, able to help with the different seasons and planting, and manage and care for the grounds.  You should be experienced in strimming and maintaining trees. You should be able to upkeep the tools and ensure they are kept in good working order.
You should be a strong, self-motivated team player, and be looking for a long-term role and a wonderful project to be involved with for years to come.  You must be a passionate gardener and flexible in your work.  You should have previous experience working in beautiful gardens and grounds and be a confident professional gardener.

Location/Accommodation
This role is just outside Donegal, F94, Ireland and you have the option to live-in or live-out.  Accommodation of a one or two-bedroom, cottage on the estate can be provided, and the client is happy for you to bring partners, children and pets. 

Days/Hours

  • Working 8am – 5pm (flexible on hours as per daylight in summer/winter), Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays worked.  On the weeks you work the Saturday, you’ll have another day off during the week.
  • The family is flexible with the working hours and generally work on the basis of longer summer hours and shorter winter hours.  

Languages

You must speak an excellent level of English to be able to communicate with the family and staff.

Special Skills
You should have experience working as a head gardener and leading a team. 

You must be highly skilled with working with garden machinery and upkeep. 

You should have skills in planting and lawn care and tree care, and ideally if you hold a formal gardening qualification this would go in good favour.
