Family Background
A single principal is looking to find a new domestic couple, after their previous domestic couple retired after thirty three years with the principal. There are two properties on site, a beautiful main house with five bedrooms, and a guest house with three bedrooms. The properties are surrounded by eight acres of stunning grounds. There are stables and paddocks within the grounds, although these are not currently in use. There is a swimming pool and tennis court also in the grounds. You must be an animal lover for this role, as the principal is looking to get a new dog in the spring. The principal entertains family visits and guests regularly.
Duties
This role will suit a couple who are enthusiastic, have integrity and love the countryside. Initiative on both sides is important. The principal lives alone but has her children and grandchildren staying on most weekends and in the summer months. You’ll be versatile in your duties and willing to take instruction were necessary.
As a domestic couple the role will entail housekeeping to a high standard, laundry, and wardrobe management, assisting with food preparation, property maintenance, and gardening.
The housekeeping includes daily and deep cleaning, changing beds, organising cupboards, putting away shopping, vacuuming, and polishing. The home contains beautiful antiques and fine furnishings, you must be confident in handling different metals, fine wood floorings, and antiques.
The principal hosts family and guests regularly. The principal enjoys cooking, and you should be happy to assist in any food preparation as needed. You should be happy to lay the table and prepare for the guests.
You should be pet friendly, as the principal is hoping to get a new dog in the spring. You must be happy to help with the dog; feeding and walking as required.
This role will also focus on managing the property, maintenance, and driving duties. You should be able to perform maintenance around the property and be a confident driver to help with driving duties and running occasional errands – only one person in the couple needs to be able to drive. Maintenance duties include painting, changing lightbulbs, maintaining gates/fences, caring for the tennis court and swimming pool. You should be an outdoorsy person and be capable of grounds maintenance, mowing, hedge cutting, caring for flower beds and planting etc.
Location/Accommodation
The principal is in Whipsnade, Bedfordshire, LU6. This is a live in role, with a lovely two bedroom annex with separate entrance provided.
Days/Hours
- Working Monday – Friday, with flexibility to work the weekend when guests are visiting
- Working 8am - 4pm with an hour lunch break
- Each working 35 hours per week
- When working over the weekend, you will have 2 days off in the week
Languages
You must speak a good level of English.
Special Skills
You should be confident with all aspects of housekeeping and grounds and garden maintenance. One of you must have a driving license.
